Living rooms send out important identity messages about people-- they are designed to be seen and used by family and visitors alike. The analysis of the photos of a living room shown below reveals how Psycho-Decorating can interpret the silent messages conveyed by living room signals. The current pictures are of the living room of a condominium on the Gulf coast of Florida. (Please see below if you would like to submit pictures of your living room.)

LIVING ROOM SIGNALS

Characteristics which can be gleaned from this living room photo as suggested by Psycho-Decorating research will now be presented. Some of the decorating preferences shown relate to more than one personality characteristic.

Endurance to follow tasks to completion is indicated by:

• Light-colored walls
• Inclusion of chairs with ottomans
• Use of individual lamps where needed rather than central overhead lighting

Achievement orientation is shown by:

• Sofa and chair upholstered in gold-toned fabrics
• Light tone of walls
• Presence of book shelves in living room

Sensitivity towards views of other people is expressed by:

• Color scheme featuring two or more colors--in this example gold, mauve, and green
• Inclusion of artificial plants amid living room decor

Ego strength, the ability to cope, is exhibited by:

• Chosen color scheme incorporates some warm colors, including gold and mauves, which are employed on the sofa, two easy chairs, carpet, and draperies
